Fatal Exception Error - User notes

[Revised Jul 04]

Windows memory allocation errors

These should be very rare on Windows 2000 or above. These are reported as 'Fatal exception' error, 'General Protection Fault' , 'GPF' or can produce 'Run time errors' and the program comes to a halt with a blue screen bearing these messages or 'Illegal function' message is similar. These are usually caused by interference from other programs, especially DOS programs using a printer.

Recovery

1. Acknowledge by accepting any 'OK' button or similar. If it asks whether to 'End' a task, accept this. It may issue a general warning that ending Windows programs without a normal shutdown may result in 'Data to be lost' but in practice this is unlikely with 'RxOne' as it has Roll forward data recovery and can usually recover all data.

See below if a message appears, "Data may be lost".

2. Select the Windows 'Start' button in the bottom left corner.

3. Select Shutdown

4. Select Restart. Windows will end all tasks including 'RxOne', clear the memory and restart.

5. On restarting, if a message 'File not found' appears, repair the database then shut down and restart.

Sudden rash of 'blue screens' of 'Fatal errors'

- Run the Preventative maintenance a.s.a.p.

- If still no better refer to 'power/environmental problems'
