Windows, Desktop

[Revised Oct 04].

The 'desktop' is the Windows screen that is displayed on starting up, that displays the icons to start various programs. It can have the users choice of 'wallpaper', and controls the screen saver, and other display settings.

To change the desktop properties

1. 'Right-click' click on a blank part of the desktop (Note, right mouse button, not the usual left-mouse button).

2. Select 'Properties' , using the normal left-mouse.

3. Select 'Background' 'Screen saver', 'Appearance' or 'Settings' as required.

Background

Change the wallpaper etc, to suit your preferences. Although the pharmacy program comes with its own wallpaper, there is no need to stay with this if you want something different. The 'wallpaper' has no effect on the program.

Screen saver

Change this, or the period that it waits, to suit your preference. A time of five minutes is usually convenient, less tends to become a nuisance. The pharmacy program carries out background work while waiting for the next task, and this stops some screen savers working as they interpret it as user activity.

Appearance

It is recommended that the standard Windows screens are left with default colours, as the help-desk will often describe the 'blue frame' the 'grey background' etc, and if these are not blue or grey a is can be confusing when asking for help.

Settings

Do not change these unless you are sure you understand the implications for handling of the video display output. It is possible to seriously disrupt the screen display with this setting.
