[Revised Apr 05]
(For instructions on how to set up Special Promotion, see 'Related Topics' below)
It is a policy decision whether you want to keep your records of 'Special price' offers isolated from the same items sold at normal price, or all in together. The computer can handle either situation.
Points in favour of isolating specials
There is no risk of the price reverting to normal while the lower price continues to be advertised.
Separate records are retained so you can look back when ordering if the promotion is repeated in future.
Points in favour of 'all in together'
Only one record will exist for any one item, no matter how it is sold.
When the promotion ends there is no need to transfer stock internally.
To isolate 'specials'
1. Make up a new stock card with for use during the special period. E.g. for the `Widget Blue' item pull; up the card then 'Edit', 'Copy stock card'. It should say 'Item copied'.
2. Exit the card using 'Search' and look up the item again. You will see two cards, 'Widget Blue' and 'Widget Blue (copy)' . Select the 'copy' and
- Change its name to 'Widget blue ($3.50 special)',
- Change the price and give it a new PLU.
- Print new barcode labels for the item.
To have specials 'all in together'
Change the price on the stock card. It is important to make certain when you change it back at end of the promotion that you also change back every shelf sticker or poster, as customers become very annoyed if charged full price for something advertised as a special.
To handle long term specials
These are just a price change, so change the existing stock cards.
To handle 'Market days'
With bins of reduced items, often many items at a set price;
If the items to be sold are dead stock/overstocks, write them off their usual cards and create a separate stock card called
`Market day $1.95 specials' or similar, perhaps on one of the `Hot keys' for single stroke selling, and sell off that.
