If the 'drugs owing' mechanism is used, stock control, orders etc are all handled correctly since the computer knows the true situation.
If the user chooses not to tell the computer the full story, they need to allow for this when considering stock figures etc.
Example; Suppose 3 packs of a drug are in stock, a script comes in for 8 packs, and 2 are supplied with 1 owing.
- If marked as 'owe 5' the computer knows that there is still +1 pack in stock.
- If not marked as 'owing' the computer thinks that there are -5 in stock, whereas there is really +1. When a rolling stocktake reveals +1 this will appear to be a stock control error and a user may think that the computer is dropping stock or scripts.
