Foil, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

[Revised June 2008]

At the bottom of this screen are some ideas on how to speed the processing of foils.

Queries:

"I selected the items to go on the foil however they printed on separate foils and I want them all on one foil. How do I do it?"

There are two ways to group scripts from the Patient Information screen:

1. Select the items, then use Group Selected Scripts function from the Utilities menu.

2. Select the items, right mouse click over the group, then select ‘Group selected scripts’

You can also group scripts from Bulk Copy.

Select all the items to be grouped from the Right hand screen and right mouse click as above.

"How do I differentiate between a Monday/Wednesday/Friday script and an alternating script?"

If you enter the first two days dosage they will be copied for the whole month and they will alternate correctly (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday on foil 1 and 3. Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday on foil 2 and 4). If you enter the whole week (seven days) the week will be copied four times. (Foil 1, 2, 3 and 4 could all have Monday, Wednesday, Friday).

"How do I enter a 10 day antibiotic script?"

The default setting is Script 28 days. Change this to Script 10 days.(This works if the medication is to start on 'day one' of the foil)

If the medication is to start on (say) day 7 and go to day 16 then enter the duration as 16 days and set the first 6 days to '0,0,0,0'

"How do I enter a Prednisone script, 4 per day week 1, 3 per day week 2, 2 per day week 3, 1 per day week 4?"

Entering the top line, or two lines, of a foil only will cause the computer to copy them for the rest of the duration of the script. For a diminishing dosage on a script EVERY period must be entered. Note: for a '4 x Weekly' foil each week is color coded and easy to distinguish. On a 'Monthly' foil pack you need to look at the days at the side to see where the weeks start and end.

"How do I expand SIGs on foils?"

One area that pharmacies need to be aware of showing the full SIG on foils.

To do this from the RxOne Start Menu select Tools,  Printer Setup, 'Foil Packaging' .

Select the type of foil that your pharmacy uses and click on modify foil.

The last option in the blister options is  'Expand SIG'. Tick this to show full patient instructions.

Click on  OK to save the details.

Processing a large number of foils is taking too long

Below is a list of things that may assist.

1. How can I regroup scripts without going into each patient?

a. In Bulk Copy Select a group of scripts, Right click and select group selected scripts

2. How do I handle an odd dose time?

a. If you have an odd dose time for one or more drugs, increase the number of dose times and put the drug quantity in the extra column. When you print you will get the correct number of foils and signing sheets. E.g Fosamax at 6:30 am, Set the number of dose times to 5. For all the other drugs fill in the foil 1 grid for the Fosamax fill in the foil 2 Grid.

3. How do I print all the foils for a rest home?

- Go into ‘Bulk Copy’

- Select the Rest-home the foils are for

- Select the patients and then their items

Follow the directions on using Bulk Copy Safely and Efficiently in Script, Bulk Copy

4. I am dispensing a new script- how do I add this into Bulk Copy?

a. When dispensing the script mark it as 'continuous medication'

5. I have scripts showing in Bulk Copy that I don't want to dispense but when I remove them they don't show on the medication chart?

a. In bulk copy select all the scripts listed

b. Hold down the [Ctrl] Key and click on all the scripts you don't want

c. Click on copy selected Only the highlighted scripts will be dispensed

6. How do I add extra blank lines to the Medication chart for unrecorded meds?

a. Go to Tools\Printer Setup

b. Select Medication Review

c. Click on Advanced

d. Set the blank lines value to whatever is required

7. How many drugs can I fit on a foil?

a. On the most common setting each blister will hold ten drugs. So if you have 11 drugs in the foil 8 in the morning and 3 in the evening then you will get one foil.

8. Can I make the patient name bigger?

a. Go to Tools\Printer Setup

b. Select Foil Pack Header

c. Click on Advanced. Select your type of foils and click on Modify Foils

d. Under Font Size enter the new font size

9. Can I remove or add extra details to the foil?

a. Go to Tools\Printer Setup

b. Select Foil Pack Header

c. Click on Advanced. Select your type of foils and click on Modify Foils

d. To Remove an item click select it then click on delete

e. To Add an item click on "Add" then select the item from the drop down box

10. Why do I not have any choice for PRN signing sheets?

a. Go to Tools\Printer Setup

b. Select Foil Pack Header

c. Click on Advanced. Go to Signing Sheet and from the scroll down menu, select each type of signing sheet in turn.

d. Any signing sheet which has PRN in the title should have ‘prn signing sheets’ ticked on.

11. How do I repeat an existing Foil?

This will take an existing foil and dispense the repeats, not be confused with reprinting a foil or duplicating it.

The scripts must have repeats remaining. To copy (replicate) existing foils to new foils see Copying Existing Foils

a. Select ‘Repeat’

b. Select the Patient.

c. Select the scripts to repeat. Note that ‘foil’ scripts have an ‘F’ beside the script number.

d. Press either ‘Finished’ or <Enter>.

12. Can I do repeats in Bulk Copy?

For any patient selected from within a Rest Home group, their continuous medication is dispensed as either a new script or a repeat, if one is available.

13. I have done a repeat foil and the foil is blank.

If blank foils are printed when repeating a foil, it is likely that the original was entered incorrectly as a 'seven day' foil and when attempting to print the 2nd week all days have been used up. To fix, edit the script and change to 28 days.
