Crash, Major

[Revised Nov 2011]

There are several levels of "crashes" on a computer.

1) if the RxOne program "crashes" it will freeze the system and you will need to go Ctrl + Alt + Del and go to task Manager and 'End Task'. If you have to shut down then a message will come up to say that RxOne was ended.

2) If Windows programs (eg C++, Network drivers) "crash" then you will see the "blue screen of death" and  messages on start up will tell you that Windows is corrupted and do you want to send a report to Microsoft. Say 'Yes'

3) If the computer spontaneously shuts down and or restarts then this is a hardware problem. It may be the power supply or it could be that a new computer is required. If this is happening, please do not hesitate to act, even if this is a relatively new computer. If you don't act, then you are likely to experience other strange problems and possibly corruption of data.

What to do if this software goes down and cannot be revived;

[Technicians notes... requires expert computer knowledge]

Make a backup of the whole c:\RxOne directory by copying it to another directory (lotsold).

· Re-install the program

· Find the most recent database containing data if possible.

· Places to look:

· Current lotsdb directory in the backup directory you have made (lotsold)

· Recent backup (Try and restore manually using pkunzip to another directory to avoid over-writing new Files.. ie create a temp directory. Change to this directory from DOS then type "pkunzip -d d:RxOne c:\*.*")

· There are two more backups "c:\RxOne.zip" and "c:\lotsud.zip" which you can unzip manually in the temp directory.

· Look at the dates of the zip files to tell how recent they are.

· Now, find the most recent Audit Trail and recover the Scripts. The Audit files to look for at are Rxaudit.log, Rxaudit.Bak, and Audit01.log, audit02.log ... to covering the last two months of Audit trails at least.

· Audit trails are rolled over when a backup is done so if they do backups every day the files are small, but if they don't do regular backups the file will be large (megs of data).

· To recover the scripts from the audit trail, from the program Start menu select Tools, Utilities, Database Utilities, Restore. From the Main Restore screen select Recover Scripts from Audit trail from the 'File' Menu. DO NOT RESTORE THE DATABASE.

· Re-configure printers

· Reboot machine again then try and got into the dispensary.

· Check the Script Number is correct.

· If you are unable to recover a database use a fresh database from the install set and recover some audit trails to get some recent data at least.

· Make sure all hardware is operating as it should be. Replace any faulty equipment like bad keyboards or faulty backup disks.

Check that the last prescription claim is still present. If not, make up this claim again.

If reinstalling does not help, reinstall Windows itself. If even this fails a hardware problem is likely.
